Well, is weird to relate these three things! Curiosity was embedded in my deep heart when I read the newspaper recently. How FIFA Football Matches was related with the politics and also economy in Malaysia. Finally, my queries were answered when I get to know the details of these stuffs. Sure, the headline of the newspapers was filled by all the matters of the football betting. The waves of objection from our politicians, the authorities of certain states and the people are the obstruction for Berjaya Corp tycoon Vincent Tan – Ascot Sports to obtain the licence. (Ascot Sports is a dormant company to Berjaya Corp) From the view of economy, legalising sports betting in Malaysia was expected to generate over RM3 billion a year as tax revenue for government coffers. It sounds good for government in order to prevent ourselves to be another Greece. According to our Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Idris Jala, our beloved Malaysia will face the risk of bankrupt by 2019 if it does not cut subsidies and monitor our borrowings and Malaysia's debt would rise to 100 percent of GDP by 2019 from the current 54%. Huh, this is quite embarrassed and astonishing. However, should sport betting be an alternative income for our government? From the moral view, gambling should be banned. Gambling is prohibited for Muslim. However, the tax revenue from this source is Haram source. Thus, should it be used for the development of our country or even to pay the salary of government servants who mostly are Muslim? Will the legalised of football betting eradicate illegal gambling or on the other hand aggravate social problems? Yup, this is the things that our Minister of Finance should consider. Nowadays, we have quite a lot of ways to invest in Malaysia. The people of Malaysia even are able to come out with the ideas of investing in securities of companies that are based in Vietnam such as Hong Leong Vietnam Fund. Hence, should sports betting be an alternative investment for Malaysian in future? Bravo human, this is what financial engineering is!
A provoked question by our tycoon/Chief Executive/Chairman of Berjaya Corp: Why are some politicians so against this? Well, I am also curious that why our Pakatan Rakyat so against this and what is their motive behind the scenes? I hope priority of Rakyat is their objective. However, some of BN politicians which I never see their face before also come out with their precious voice to ban the legalised of sport betting. Maybe this should be the best opportunity for those who want to gain popularity GUA! Why don’t our government allocate the whole operation to a welfare management institution and let all the things to be operated in a transparent way? Why our government only assign to Ascot Sports but not other company?
Betting is just one of the methods to show our support for our favourite team and it also puts our judgement to test. So maybe you can proudly say that you have accurate judgements in front of our buddies. However, it is just only the problems of the people of Malaysian because we are unable to monitor and control ourselves. Or greedy is main factor for all the problems.
